I am passionate about empowering people and getting you out of pain. Feeling firsthand the transformative power of manual therapy for my own injuries motivated me to choose this profession that continually provides new opportunities to support my community.
I work primarily with fascia, the highly communicative network of connective tissue that is interwoven throughout your body. Working with your nervous system encourages the calm it needs to allow and integrate deeply transformative therapy. If your nervous system is being triggered because the treatment is too intense then your body won’t be open to letting go of the protective patterns you experience as decreased functionality or pain. Communication ensures that the right treatment depth for your nervous system.
I am a graduate of the 3,000 hour curriculum at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy (RMT, 2011) and was honoured to be awarded the Joe Koscak Memorial Award by my colleagues for exemplifying “integrity, passion, perseverance, a passionate heart, and a caring soul.” Previously I studied at UBC (BA International Relations: Economic Development, 2006), Capilano College (Dip. Media Production, 2001), and the Vancouver Waldorf School (1998). Prior to studying massage therapy, I worked for the Provincial Nominee Program of the BC Government for three years, resigning from my position as Program Advisor to follow my passion for empowering people.
My training with the West Coast College of Massage Therapy included outreaches at Vancouver General Hospital (Burns, Plastics, Trauma unit), BC Women’s Hospital (High-Risk Antepartum unit), Canuck Place Pediatric Hospice, George Pearson Centre (for people with severe disabilities), Friends for Life (for people with life-threatening illnesses), South Granville Seniors Centre, Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion, and a school inreach for people with Multiple Sclerosis. Having plenty of personal experience with injury and trauma, I made a point of receiving regular treatments in the school clinic; the 100+ treatments I received from 40+ different therapists provided many invaluable learning opportunities.
Since graduating from WCCMT in 2011, I have sought out senior RMTs from whom I have received additional training in myofascial release, Integral Anatomy, craniosacral therapy, and ligamentous articular strain technique. I love learning from my teachers, colleagues, and patients. One of my favourite aspects of RMT work is sharing knowledge that is specific and relevant to you in order to help get you out of pain, perform optimally, and enjoy your life to the fullest.
